Delicious dinner at Ironique in the Mt Eden village (448 Mt Eden Rd). Catch up with friends you haven’t seen for ages is always special, and sharing a great meal is a bonus. The fish of the day was kingfish, generous serving, piping hot and served on hearty serving of gourmet potatoes and bok choy [...]

Hansan Vietnamese Restaurant
Bright, bubbly Vietnamese restaurant for a quick meal, if you are in the area. The food is just above average, not outstanding, but the service is quick and friendly and well priced. Situated at 55 Nuffield St, Newmarket. Large open restaurant, with water feature, not for intimate dining. Ideal for quick bite on the way [...]

What amazing day of helpful staff – sadly not always the case. I’m sure we’ve all experienced unhelpful staff, who treat you as a nuisance in their store. Well today was just the opposite … took a male client shopping for a special shirt to wear for a wedding. The only one we both really [...]

Had my best ever soup today at a café in Kamo, Whangarei at Soda Café, 505 Kamo Rd, Kamo. The chicken soup was sensational, thick (not creamy), nutritious with lots of thin slices of chicken and a very generous serving, for $9.50. Served with toast, when I said I did not want the toast, I [...]

Is it co-incidence that tennis star, Venus Williams has chosen fashionable France to wear an almost bedroom outfit on the tennis court? She says lace has never been worn on the international tennis circuit before… her black lace “skirt” and black and red bustier styled top may look out of place, but wait there’s more [...]

Cakestall
A colourful and comfortable café in the Royal Oak shops serving delicious food and cakes, as the name implies. Used to be called Brown Sugar, but the café of the same name in Taihape complained about the name, so the Royal Oak shop/café changed its name, but the food is just as good. www.thecakestall.co.nz

Wise Words
Top New Zealand designer, Trelise Cooper showed restraint when she decided not to be offended by Charlotte Grimshaw’s novel, The Night Book. Restraint is something that this talented designer is not known for with her amazing creations, which has made her top choice for many New Zealand and international socialites and Hollywood stars when selecting [...]

Where Eagles fly
An eagle in full flight emblazoned the gown worn by Cate Blancett for the premiere of Robin Hood. Cate, who plays Lady Marion in the film, wore a gown by the late British designer, Alexander McQueen. The dramatic black and silver dress was eye catching with a silver eagle in full flight swooping down the [...]
