Matakana Village
Less than an hour north of Auckland, the village has an interesting selection of clothing and gift shops, good cafes and an amazing Saturday morning and mid-week twilight market. The freshly smoked chicken breasts are a treat.

NEW 50 minute route:
-Take state highway 1 (the Northern Motorway over the Auckland Harbour Bridge) and drive through on to the new section of highway just west of Orewa.
-Continue through to the newly completed Johnson’s Hill Tunnels which exit just south of Puhoi*

Alternatively there is the 1 hour route:
- Take state highway 1 (the Northern Motorway over the Auckland Harbour Bridge) and drive for approximately 60km, passing through and by Orewa, Waiwera, Wenderholm Park, and Puhoi.
Continue on as below:
- Turn right at the second set of traffic lights in Warkworth town off State Highway 1.
- Follow the road to the left as it winds it’s way through the intersection. Follow the posted signs- you are now heading towards Matakana Village, regional vineyards and the Hauraki Coast.
- Matakana Village is 12km from Warkworth. This same road also leads further to Omaha, Tauwhranui, Leigh, the Goat Island Marine Reserve, and Pakiri Beach.
